WMB Town Hall Meeting – A Voice for Women in Business

Abuja, 13th March, 2025

The We Mean Business (WMB) Town Hall Meeting has successfully concluded, bringing together key stakeholders, policymakers, and female entrepreneurs to discuss policies, challenges, and opportunities for women-led businesses in Nigeria.

The event featured thought-provoking discussions and insightful contributions from esteemed speakers, including Dr. Tope Fasua, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, who reiterated the current administration’s commitment to supporting MSMEs. He highlighted several government interventions designed to ease business operations, improve access to financing, and create a more enabling environment for small and medium enterprises across the country.

Dr. Tinuke Temitope from the Abuja Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI) delivered a powerful presentation on gender-specific challenges in policy access and implementation. She emphasized the need for targeted reforms that address bureaucratic barriers and promote inclusivity in economic policies to ensure that women entrepreneurs can thrive.

Alhaji Sani Garba, a respected business leader, provided valuable insights into industry-specific barriers for SMEs and practical strategies for navigating them. He stressed the importance of public-private partnerships and capacity-building programs to help small businesses scale and sustain their operations.

Adding a practical perspective, Ms. Abimbola Ayeni, a renowned entrepreneur, spoke about the real challenges faced by women in policy compliance and access to funding. She urged for simplified regulatory processes, increased financial support, and greater advocacy efforts to ensure that women entrepreneurs can fully leverage available business opportunities.

The WMB Town Hall Meeting reinforced the importance of collective advocacy and strategic stakeholder engagement in shaping policies that foster an inclusive business environment for women-led enterprises.

The WMB Coalition extends its deepest gratitude to all speakers, panelists, and attendees for their participation and commitment to advancing the cause of women entrepreneurs. As we move forward, WMB remains dedicated to driving policy reforms, fostering collaborations, and ensuring that women entrepreneurs have a strong voice in shaping Nigeria’s economic landscape.

SMEs play a large, growing, and vital role in the economy of any country. They are the ‘hidden middle,’ ready for support and investment to thrive further.

"I understand we all are overwhelmed, because there is no manual on how to handle the crisis. But by tackling little things quickly, practically and with empathy, this could lead to action. If not we will be crippled."
